How Soft Washing Works

Soft washing works by applying a professional cleaning solution at very low water pressure — typically 40–100 PSI, which is comparable to a garden hose. At this pressure, water is a delivery and rinse mechanism only. The actual cleaning is done by the chemistry in the solution.

Professional soft wash solutions contain biocides — compounds that kill biological organisms at the cellular level. When applied to a surface colonized by algae, mold, mildew, or bacteria, the solution penetrates the organisms' cellular walls and kills them permanently. Dead organisms then rinse away with normal rainfall or a final low-pressure rinse.

This is fundamentally different from pressure washing, which physically dislodges organisms through mechanical force without killing them. Soft-washed surfaces stay clean 2–4 years because the biological source is eliminated; pressure-washed surfaces may look clean for 6–12 months but organisms regrow from surviving root systems.
